How the day was made
Amélie is French, Julien grew up between Lyon and Montreal, and half the guest list had to fly. So the celebration was designed as a weekend, not an evening: an arrival supper on Friday, the wedding on Saturday, a slow lunch on Sunday before everyone left.
The ceremony took place at the edge of the olive grove under a linen canopy we had made to the width of the two rows of trees. Guests were seated on cane chairs; the vows were read in French and English, and Amélie's grandmother sang the final blessing unaccompanied.
Aperitif ran for a full ninety minutes in the shade — chilled rosé, tapenade, cold melon — while the terrace was turned over for dinner. We set six round tables under strings of festoon lights, dressed with terracotta plates, garden roses and peonies in every shade of blush the region grows.
The band started at eleven, the first dance happened almost accidentally in the middle of a toast, and the last guests left the terrace at four in the morning.

A weekend, not a day
Friday supper, Saturday wedding, Sunday lunch — guests unpacked once and stayed.

Built for the heat
Everything before 18:00 stayed in shade. Fans, water carafes and parasols were part of the design, not an afterthought.

Two languages
Ceremony, menus and speeches ran bilingual, with printed cards so nobody was left out of a joke.
